Hydro Ponic Farming: A new approach to learn from!!!

Hydro Ponic Farming: A new approach to learn from!!!

Of all the range of experiences that I am getting during TEA Journey as a Full Bright Scholar, a session about 'Hyrdo Ponic Farming' answered my queries about much of the problems that we often face in India about agriculture and depletion of the resources.

It is an approach of growing food and plants without any usage of soil, in a well maintained temperature & environment and in the most natural form. The approach substitutes the usage of soil with the coconut shell, thereby reducing the pressure on land. Such coconut shells are divided into small pieces and placed in a specified tray consisting of multiple units to accommodate many plants in a single tray. It is then kept under strict monitoring and temperature condition to yield the best of result. We were taken to a Green House to see this whole process of Hypdro Ponic farming and experience it personally. The plants or the food crop resulted from this farming method is completely free from Weeds or any use of pesticides/chemicals.

We are coming across major health hazards these days due to the impure quality of food that we intake, but with the limited choices available and majority of food being grown or cropped up, by implying such methods doesn't leave us with many options. I realized that it can be used as an alternative method of farming in many countries dealing with the challenge of population like ours. It will not only help in reducing the Farmer's effort but will also facilitate the growing of crops in a naturalistic manner without exerting much pressure on the natural resources at the same time.

However, there is one time investment for the installation of such system since the concept is still not popular enough, but as the nations will get more aware about such methodology there is a hope that it's demand will impact its pricing too.

We do have the concept of  'Eco Club' in our govt. schools back in Delhi, that helps to provide students about an insight of Gardening & Farming. We can share such new advancements with our students or induce such teaching through Project Method because at times the brightest ideas comes from the youngest learners.

Often we talk about the challenges that poses threat on our environment. But mere talk doesn't help unless WE take small though firm steps towards its restoration. Children are the biggest contributors to it. Developing a sense of respect and responsibility at an early stage, in them towards the society, community and planet will ensure the holistic development of ours as one single UNIT.
